Welcome to Inky's Online, the official webpage for this
year's Burning Man project by the Blacklight Aquarium. If you are attending
Burning Man 2002, you will probably get thirsty. Stop by Inky's and have
a tasty, brisk beverage, relax in the shade, and become acquainted with
the largest sea creature of the playa.

Who is Inky?
Inky is the playa's only giant squid (Architeuthis Plagiae).
He will be providing shade and entertainment at this year's Burning Man
festival. His quaint, swanky lounge features a bar, music, Japanese Uyiko-e
decor, and entertainment provided by Inky himself.
Tell me more about Architeuthis Plagiae.
Inquiring minds can read more about Inky HERE
(1.6MB .pdf). For more details on our progress and construction, scroll

Cheers!

The L.A. Krue held a follow-up workshop at Chez Etheldo
(in Culver City). There, they worked on the integrated kitchen sink/shower/grey
water evap pool for the camp, and decorations for Inky's. It was an extremely
productive weekend.

The L.A. Krue made the long trek up I-5 (and a little bit of 50) to Chez Folsom for a weekend of camp planning, setting up the dome with the squid on top, and doing more work on the bar.
After successfully assembling the dome with squid, bar construction foreman brian:AM deemed the bar's 'v' shape too large to fit inside the structure, and opted for a standard rectangular shape. Construction commenced based on the alternate design. After bar construction, the decoration krue painted and
glittered up the bar. It is most swanky. |

Monday, June 17, 2002 Brian:AM designed a 'V' shape for the bar. He and Xtine got most of the first section complete. Simultaneously, Myk and Ika-San began construction on the body of Inky, the squid. They completed a cardboard skeleton, complete with fins. |

The shade structure is complete. The design is based entirely on Steve Lerner's Geometry Dome. Saturday, Ika San, Xtine, and Myk picked up all the materials, cut the rebar, and drilled the PVC.
Sunday, the rope was cut, and the
dome was assembled. The process of tying the joints together and hoisting
the dome into place took approximately 2.5 hours with three people...
not bad!
After the dome was assembled, measurements were taken. Due to the fact that the angles of every triangle are not equal, variations occur in the measurements.
